Virginia Tech Completes Testing of LiteSheet LED UV-C Disinfecting Cabinet Against SARS-CoV-2

Test Results Show a 99.97% Reduction of the Virus That Causes COVID-19

Dr. Nisha Duggal and her team of scientists at Virginia Tech tested the efficacy of the LiteSheet UV-C Disinfecting Cabinet against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that is the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic, on surfaces.

“We tested the capacity of SARS-CoV-2 to infect cells after a 15-minute incubation within the LiteSheet UV-C cabinet or outside of the cabinet. We found that the level of infectious SARS-CoV-2 on a surface was reduced by 99.97% after 15 minutes in the cabinet,” said Dr. Nisha Duggal, Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine.

Further, by leaving the SARS-CoV-2 sample in the cabinet for 30 minutes, the test shows a 100% reduction in the virus' capacity to infect cells. See the below chart for the comparison of exposure time within the cabinet verses the control outside of the cabinet.

UV-C DISINFECTION FOR ANY NEED

The LiteSheet LED UV-C Disinfecting Cabinet is designed to decontaminate contents from harmful viruses and bacteria while providing a safe environment for the workplace. By optimally positioning UV-C LED modules inside the cabinet to eliminate blind spots, contents are disinfected within minutes. Additional safety features include a digital timer and an interlock cabinet door to ensure the UV-C modules cannot be powered on until the cabinet door is securely closed. Controls include On-Off Power, timer control, safety door interlock, and in use LED indicator.
This technology is covered by one or more patent applications, including U.S. Pat. App. S/N 62/706,059.

WHY IT WORKS

WHAT IS UV-C LIGHT?

UV light has three wavelength categories: UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C. UV-C light wavelengths are between 200 and 300 nanometers. UV-C is germicidal and effective in breaking apart microorganisms, such as bacteria, molds, and viruses.

WHY IS UV-C EFFECTIVE?

Microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, cysts and mold are simple lifeforms that reproduce by subdivision, budding or by producing spores. Reproduction of these organisms is vital to their life-cycle. Loss of their ability to grow and multiply is classified as cellular death and renders them harmless and no longer pathogenic. When exposing microorganisms to UV-C light, the light penetrates through their cell walls and disrupts the structure of their DNA molecules, prohibiting reproduction. Because UV disinfection does not rely on chemicals or filtration materials, it can be used effectively and safely.
